Live Music – Live music at the deck really started in our first year 1996 when we had performances from Karen Smith, Earnie Smith and Boris Gardiner.
Deck Tuesdays started with Bobby T, Magic Fingers (Mordy & Clive), Errol & Richie Clarke
Carnival Fridays & Sundays – late nineties, before mass camp – when Byro nLee and the Dragonnaires was playing at The Courtleigh, Trafalgar Road, every Friday there was an exodus straight to the Deck of literally hundreds of revelers.
Live Thursdays with band leaders – Dwight Pinkney, Errol Lee and Micky Hanson – started August 21, 2003. Had a show every Thursday for around 2 years with some great performances by some of Jamaica’s greatest artists. Thereafter Cecile Strudwick Green a music teacher from the Jamaica School of Music took up the mantle with a live performance every last Thursday with freshly trained talent.
Deck Personality Selector’s competition – First held in November 1998 with our first winner being none other than John Hunter, other winners over the years include Ingrid Evans, Richard Blackford.
Appleton Vintage Spin-off – October 2001 – The Deck entered for the first time, Mrs. Caitlin Young took us to the finals after crushing a lot of vintage male egos – Came second after a previous Deck Selector winner – Richard Blackford (now migrated) who was representing another entity.
